« Per una sorta di aperta avversione verso le immagine a colori , mi sono ritrovato durante i mie prima anni a fotografare solamente in bianco e nero. Quello che trovavo allora ‘indisponente’ delle fotografia a colori era il fatto di doversi affidare alle macchine per il suo sviluppo e trattamento. Mi sembrava che nei fatti non vi fosse un vero margine creativo per realizzare delle stampe fine art a colori, ma allo stesso tempo ero molto attratto dalla possibilità di stampare le mie immagini a colori su dei supporti cartacei tradizionali tramite il processo tipografico che mi sembrava per ricchezza dei pigmenti assai più adatto al mio modo di lavorare dell’epoca. »
Colors - realizzato a cavallo tra il 1990 ed il 1993 - è il primo portfolio che propone un tentativo di convivenza tra Luca Monti le immagini a fotografiche colori. Partendo da quel primo nucleo di immagini, grazie a diverse aggiunte negli anni successivi e’ stato realizzato l’omonimo libro.
« For a sort of open aversion towards color images, I found myself during my first years only to shoot in black and white. What I found then 'unpleasant' of color photography was the fact of having to rely on the machines for its development and treatment. It seemed to me that in fact there was not a real creative margin to make fine art prints in color, but at the same time I was very attracted by the possibility to print my color images on traditional paper supports through the printing process that seemed to me wealth of pigments much more suited to my way of working at the time. »
Colors - created between 1990 and 1993 - is the first portfolio that proposes an attempt to cohabitate Luca Monti with photographic color images. Starting from that first nucleus of images, thanks to several additions in the following years, the book of the same name was created.
« Pour une sorte d'aversion ouverte à l'égard des images en couleur, je me suis retrouvé, durant mes premières années, uniquement à filmer en noir et blanc. Ce que j'ai trouvé alors ‘hors de propos' de la photographie en couleur, c'est le fait de devoir compter sur les machines pour son développement et son traitement. Il me semblait qu'il n'y avait pas vraiment de marge créative pour faire des tirages d'art en couleur, mais en même temps j'étais très attiré par la possibilité d'imprimer mes images couleur sur des supports papier traditionnels à travers le processus d'impression qui me semblait une richesse de pigments beaucoup plus adaptée à ma façon de travailler à l’époque. »
Colors - créées entre 1990 et 1993 - constituent le premier portfolio à proposer une tentative de cohabitation entre Luca Monti et des images couleur photographiques. À partir de ce premier noyau d'images, grâce à plusieurs ajouts dans les années suivantes, le livre du même nom a été créé.
